Dimos Dimitriadis was born in 1962 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied jazz saxophone, flute and composition at Berklee College of Music (Βachelor of Music-Cum Laude) and Βennington College (Master of Arts). His list of teachers includes prominent jazz musicians such as Steve Lacy, Mal Waldron, Βill Dixon and important saxophonists and educators like Joe Viola, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, John Purcell and Hal Crook.
He has performed in many countries including the USA, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Poland Croatia, Bulgaria and Greece. His collaborations include many greek and international artists, groups and orchestras like Steve Lacy, Mal Waldron, Ricky Ford, Keith Copeland, Tim Hagans, Sheila Jordan, Ran Blake, J.R. Monterose, Bruno Tommaso, J.R. Monterose, Günter Sommer, Anatoly Vapirov, Ivo Van der Borght, Stephane Galland, Michel Hatzigeorgiou, Jeff Boudreaux, Marc Abrams, Ronan Guilfoyle, Jussi Lehtonen, Stepko Gut, Jarmo Savolainen, Jari Perkiomaki, Olivier Gatto, Theodosii Spassov, Floros Floridis, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Buccarest Symphony Orchestra, Greek Radio Contemporary Music Orchestra and Big Band, State Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki.
Mr Dimitriadis is an active member of the Greek jazz scene in the fields of mainstream jazz as well as avant-garde and free improvisation and ethnic jazz. His latest CD «The Game» features Jeff Boudreaux, Marc Abrams and George Kontrafouris.
He has created the groups: Five Winds (with Michel Hatzigeorgiou), the saxophone trio Saxo Viva!, the groups “Ionian Jazz Ensemble” and “Free Improvisation Ensemble” of the Ionian University. He arranged and produced the cd «Ionian Jazz Ensemble» for the Ionian University. He is also a member of the group Sonny Clark Project (with Keith Copeland)
He has recorded extensively with greek jazz groups while also collaborating with many prominent artists of the Greek music scene like Savina Yiannatou, Maria Farandouri and Dionissis Savopoulos.
Mr Dimitriadis holds the position of Assistant Professor of saxophone and director of jazz studies at the Ionian University in Corfu, Greece as the first jazz musician to be elected to an academic position in Greece.
Μr Dimitriadis is the artistic director of the Summer Jazz Academy and the Ionian Jazz Concerts in Corfu and organizer of numerous concerts and seminars by international artists. A frequent contributor to the greek “Tzaz & Jazz” magazine, Mr Dimitriadis also gives seminars and lectures and publishes articles on jazz, improvisation and related subjects.
Mr Dimitriadis is also the elected Treasurer to the Daily Board of the “International Association of Schools of Jazz” (IASJ) with Dave Liebman as the artistic director. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Artist/Scholar grant for 2006-2007.
